Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is Lindstrøm & Christabelle with “Lovesick” from the 2010 album Real Life Is No Cool on Smalltown Supersound.
From Lindstrom’s very own Feedelity Records and Smalltown Supersound, the dynamic Norwegian duo Lindstrøm & Christabelle debuts to the universe Real Life is No Cool. Chanteuse Christabelle Solale joins forces with producer Hans-Peter Lindstrøm after nearly eight years since they first worked together on Lindstrøm’s release, Music in My Mind. Real Life is No Cool is the electro pop, easier to swallow tablet, to Lindstrøm’s usual 40 minute disco-fueled opuses fans have come to know from Lindstrom’s solo debut Where You Go I Go Too.
Christabelle’s sexy affected vocals and even breathier backup vocals flirt with the funky bass lines and the end reult screams sultriness on all accounts. The piano interjects something upbeat amidst the sea of swarthiness and cool swirling around in “Lovesick.” The bass line is the hand dragging a hesitant body to the dance floor, and the piano parts offer a sweet relief to all that heat.
For now, there’s only one show listed on their MySpace page, in Oslo, so you’re better off sticking to today’s Song of the Day and watching the official video for it here:
