  • Casiotone for the Painfully Alone has announced his retirement after 13 years in the music scene. CFTPA was known for his lo-fi sound and offbeat, insightful lyrics. To coincide with his retirement, there will be the “1st Annual Final North American Tour” which includes a Sept. 14 stop in Seattle at Sunset Tavern. For the full tour list check it on on the official site.

  • Jonsi, everyone’s favorite optimistic Icelandic indie pop star from Sigur Ros, has released another music video from his solo release, Go. This uplifting video is for the song “Animal Arithmetic.”

  • After 20 years, The Vaselines are coming out with their second studio album of new material. The album Sex With An X is a follow up to 1990’s Dum Dum and will be out Sept. 14. To get yourself ready for this second coming, check out this free download for the title track:

  • The indie gods must have turned away for a moment, because nothing else could explain this occurence. Robin Pecknold from Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom, who are currently on tour together (and played last night at the Paramount Theatre), have been reportedly covering the duet “Picture,” originally by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. Seem unbelievable? Well, here is video proof:

  • Ratatat has a new music video out for their song “Drugs.” The group somehow makes these shopping catalog images seem down right disturbing. If anyone can watch this video and not feel uncomfortable, question your sanity.

  • Antony & The Johnsons is streaming their latest EP “Thank You For Your Love,” a precursor to their full length album “Swanlights” due out in October, at Peoples Music Store. The 5 track EP includes a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Pressing On” and John Lennon’s “Imagine,” the latter being ‘re-imagined’ in first person.
  • Azure Ray are back with a new album titled Drawing Down The Moon. This marks the bands reunion since the start of their hiatus in 2004. To celebrate, there is a free track from the album titled Don’t Leave My Mind that can be downloaded from the band’s label Saddle Creek. The album will be out Sept. 14 (a popular date for this week’s Thursday music news, if you haven’t noticed!).
  • On Tuesday Spoon was joined by ?uestlove from The Roots for a performance on Jimmy Fallon of the song “Nobody Gets Me But You.” Check out the video below.
