Out This Week 8/10

You have or will hear many of the artists releasing albums this week on KEXP. New York’s The Budos Band are releasing their aptly named third album, III. The 10+ member “Instrumental Staten-Island Afro-Soul” group will be joining KEXP live on air from the Bumbershoot Music Lounge on Saturday, 9/4, and will no doubt bring the funk. Also out this week is the new release from Dan Mangan, the songwriter from just across the border, whose anthemic “Road Regrets” was featured yesterday as our Song of the Day podcast. And recently featured on Audioasis, Portland’s Reporter are releasing their stunning album of dreamy synth electro dance pop, while new Hardly Art signee Woven Bones, who will be guests this Saturday night on Sonic Reducer, offer their latest single today.

Also out this week is the folky, majestic debut from U.K. band Stornoway. Eli “Paperboy” Reed throws down old-school soul, The New Pornographers’ Kathryn Calder proves she’s no mere stand-in for Neko Case with her own solo album, and the Chicago-based post-Silkworm project Bottomless Pit return with short but solid album of pummeling post-punk. If you’re looking for a bit more variety in one package, the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is out today, with Beck leading the pack and contributing a few new tunes as the title character’s band Sex Bob-Omb. Metric, Broken Social Scene, Beachword Sparks, and The Black Lips are also featured. For more new releases out this week, check Largehearted Boy’s list and these sample tracks:
