A week ago, the venerable roots and Americana music magazine turned online community No Depression held its second annual No Depression Festival at Marymoor Park. The Swell Season, Lucinda Williams, The Cave Singers, Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet, Sera Cahoone, and The Maldives all sounded amazing from the big outdoor stage, but we at KEXP got to sneak backstage and film many of these artists performing acoustic versions of songs in the very intimate setting of the Clise Mansion library.

During one of the standouts among these amazing sets, Austin-based songwriting veteran Alejandro Escovedo (Rank and File, True Believers) teamed up with his pal and songwriting collaborator Chuck Prophet (Green on Red) and guitarist David Pulkingham for a rousing rendition of “Always a Friend.” Also, Seattle’s Sera Cahoone stopped by with master string picker Jeff Fielder to perform two of her always hauntingly beautiful songs. Check out these and more to come!
