Song of the Day: Harvey Danger – The Show Must Not Go On

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “The Show Must Not Go On,” a previously unreleased song by Harvey Danger.

Harvey Danger – The Show Must Not Go On (MP3)

You may remember today’s song if you were at the final Harvey Danger show last August. In celebration of the first anniversary of the end of an era, these fine fellas offer up the final song they ever wrote and recorded; and it was also the final song they played. “The Show Must Not Go On” is obviously about breaking up, but like their breakup (which was amicable), the song is rather upbeat despite the subject. The band wanted to share it with KEXP to thank listeners and DJs for their support over the years and so it wouldn’t get lost in history. I guess in this way, the show will go on.

Here’s Harvey Danger performing the song at their final show at The Crocodile last year:
