Out This Week 9/14

This is one of those weeks when you just throw up your hands and accept that you’re just not going to have any more money after you see what’s waiting for you at the record store today — The Black Angels, Cloud Cult, Blonde Redhead, Grinderman, Junip, The Drums, The Walkmen, The Vaselines, Justin Townes Earle, Black Mountain, Les Savy Fav — how do you decide between them? There’s only one answer: you don’t.

And how are you going to pass up the long-awaited new album from Marc Anthony Thompson, a.k.a. Chocolate Genius Incorporated, plus the latest from Icelandic songstress Ólöf Arnalds, dreamy Saddle Creek duo Azure Ray, idiosyncratic Athens bands Elf Power and Of Montreal, indie rock veterans Superchunk, the Lost-loving Weezer, the R&B/gospel/soul icon Mavis Staples, and El Guincho, Chilly Gonzales, Megafaun, James, Mice Parade… give up yet? Just open up your purses and wallets and let it all fly. At least you’ll have this wealth of songs to sample and a towering stack of new CDs on your desk.
