Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Captains of Industry” by The Quit from their 2010 self-released album Stars Invisible by Day.
Hardly the up-and-coming new local pop band anymore, Seattle band The Quit are back on the scene with their brand new album Stars Invisible by Day. If you’ll remember it was just two years ago that we were raving about their debut album Minus Tide, especially after learning they had teamed with engineer/producer Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, Feral Children). Building on themes from their great debut, the band decided to work with Graig Markel (Animals at Night, Transmissionary 6) for this new album, and the results are fantastic. The analog synths, upbeat guitar riffs, and steady pop bass lines blend together perfectly with Scott Shoemaker’s vocals. Fans of The Feelies, you now have a new favorite band.
