Monday Morning News Mash-Up

  • DJ Shadow is not only the precipice of a new album (due early in 2011), he’s about to take his beloved self on the road for the Live from the Shadowsphere tour. Fans in Seattle can squeal with glee as Shadow will be in town October 26th at The Showbox.

  • Sub Pop continues a busy year with announcement of a new Dntel EP, After Parties, due in November.
  • Need another EP to purchase? Liars will be releasing the live digital EP, Live at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on September 28th. If you prefer your Liars EPs in the physical form, the group has Proud Evolution -- which houses three new tracks -- set for an October 19th release.
  • Mike Patton + Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival = October 3rd performance as Mondo Cane at the tenth edition of the San Francisco fest. After an album of Italian pop covers, it seems only fitting that Patton would take his Mondo Cane persona for a trip through mountain music.
  • You like think to yourself: “You know, I love David Bowie but I don’t know enough about him.” Please allow the upcoming DVD, Rare and Unseen, remedy such afflictions. November 23rd will indeed give those of you with such thoughts a genuine opportunity to see interview, rehearsal, and backstage footage that lives up to the title’s billing.
  • If you weren’t able to nab tickets for tonight’s Flaming Lips show, perhaps the news of the band’s book series, All We Have is Now, will ease your broken soul. The staggered series will house concert photography, with the first edition now available through the band’s website for a mere $12.
  • If you were to decide who is best late night talk show host based on their lineup of musical guests this week, it’s a toss up between Jimmy Fallon (with The Temper Trap, Belle & Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub and The Vaselines) and Carson Daly (with Menomena, The Morning Benders, Japandroids and Los Campesinos!).
