It’s another big week for new releases... maybe not for blockbusters, but the ones that get fans frothing at the mouth, like Sufjan Stevens‘ long awaited LP, which doesn’t follow the state-themed path he started with Michigan and Illinois nor does it let listeners sit comfortably in the twee orchestral sounds of those albums either -- The Age of Adz is a challenging but rewarding listen. And though it hasn’t been quite as long of a wait for new material for Belle and Sebastian, they’ve just released Belle and Sebastian Write About Love, their first full-length in four years. Antony and the Johnsons have been a bit more prolific lately, but their new album, Swanlights, is accompanied by a 144 page book of Antony’s paintings, collages, photography and writing.
Other releases worth checking out include the new EP by Zola Jesus, the latest from Bay Area songwriter Kelley Stoltz, a new remix CD from Simian Mobile Disco, a dark experimental album from The Black Heart Procession, plus the latest from The Black, featuring members of ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and Voxtrot. Also, there are some great full-length debuts from Bloodshot recording artist Whitey Morgan and The 78′s, UK’s Wolf People, and Montreal band Suuns.
