Holly Miranda is an exceptionally talented singer/songwriter (and guitarist, pianist, trumpet player) currently living in New York. It seems that almost everything she touches is magic, whether it’s her amazing solo work or the work from her other band, The Jealous Girlfriends. Her debut solo album, The Magicians Private Library, was a fantastic first effort. Working directly with producer and TV On the Radio guitarist David Andrew Sitek, she gave some epic performances on songs like “Waves” and “Forest Green Oh Forest Green.” It then of course came as no shock to hear Holly’s sensual vocals featured on “The Lesson,” a song just released from David’s amazing new side-project Maximum Balloon. Maybe we could best describe Holly Miranda’s laid-back sound to outsiders as Loretta Lynn meets Bon Iver.
This is just something you have to hear for yourself. It’s these types of intimate performances by passionate musicians like Holly Miranda that make KEXP at CMJ such a great combination. Listeners are undoubtedly in for something special whenever she’s around, as she proved as our final performer at the Ace Hotel NYC during KEXP’s broadcast, sponsored by Free Yr Radio, during CMJ.
