Monday Morning News Fix

  • There hasn’t really been any news this week worthy of its own lead-in picture, so here’s the cool abstract, just-revealed poster for the 2011 Montreux Jazz Festival, designed by Swiss artist Francis Baudevin. The festival will run from July 1-6 in Montreux, Switzerland, so, uhh, get your tickets now, I guess. Or wait until the lineup is announced in April.

  • Deerhunter made their national TV debut on Thursday on Conan, playing “Helicopter” amidst an over-active fog machine. Fortunately, unlike Conan, they didn’t make 47 jokes about being on basic cable. Here’s the video:

  • Matador will be re-releasing Perfume Genius‘ album Learning on December 7 with three new songs. Listen to “Dreeem” here and “Your Drum” here.
  • It’s that time of year when it’s hard to avoid being inundated with best-of-the-year lists. Here’s one more – NME’s top 75 albums. Hidden by These New Puritans comes in at #1.
  • Tame Impala have released another delightfully trippy video (their video for “Lucidity” is one of my personal favorites of the year). It’s been a breakout year for the Beatles-esque Australian psych-rockers, to say the least. Here’s the video for “Expectation,” directed by Clemens Habicht:

  • It might be time to hand the title of “Slick Willie” from Clinton to Nelson. The beloved and braided country singer Willie Nelson was recently caught with six ounces of pot when his tour bus was pulled over in Texas. Six ounces constitutes a felony in Texas, but somehow the amount was reduced to four ounces, which is only a misdemeanor for which Nelson cannot be jailed.
  • Prolific producer Mark Ronson will be in the booth for the new Black Lips album, which will be released next year. Considering the Georgia band is known for taking a more DIY approach to recording and producing their albums, this could be an interesting collaboration. Pitchfork talked with lead man Jared Swilley about the details. Read the interview here.
