Out This Week 12/7

What do I really want for the holidays? How about to listen to the early albums of Bob Dylan the way they were meant to be heard: in mono and on vinyl. It’ll just take a few gift cards — say from like ten of my closest friends — and thanks to the new box set on Columbia, the first eight 12-inch LPs, from Bob Dylan to John Wesley Harding, could soon be mine. And it could be yours too, as the vinyl set lands on shelves today, along with several other potential gift purchases. Among the new releases out this week, you’ll find the latest from Deadmau5, Duffy, Engineers, Liz Janes, and Mexican Institute of Sound. Also, you might check out some new releases, like that from the young singer Anika, who’s garnering many comparisons to Nico and Marianne Faithful, and a reissue with bonus material of the full-length debut from Seattle’s Perfume Genius. For a British powerhouse of bass guitar legends Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Mani Mounfield (Stone Roses, Primal Scream), and Andy Rourke (The Smiths), try the anticipated full-length by Freebass. And don’t forget electronic duo Daft Punk‘s rippin’ soundtrack to sure-to-be-blockbuster Tron Legacy. You’ll find these and more interesting new releases on Largehearted Boy’s list in here to sample below. Happy holidays, everyone!
