SCHOOL OF ROCK presents: Best of the Northwest, Volume II: A Rock Benefit for Teen Feed @ Neumos
The School of Rock, in case you don’t know, is a performance-based music school for kids ages 8-17. They often put on performances, usually playing covers of a particular band. On Thursday, they’ll be at Neumos playing songs from the “Best of the Northwest” including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Death Cab for Cutie, The Thermals, David Bazan, The Ventures and many more. Proceeds will benefit Teen Feed. (7 pm, $10 adv / $12 dos, all ages – bar w/ ID)
ELVIS ALIVE with Vince Mira @ The Triple Door
It’s now 2011, but it’s no time to get out of the holiday spirit. It’s the holiest of holy’s birthday on January 8 (I’m talking about Elvis, of course) and there are plenty of opportunities this week to celebrate the life of the King. On Thursday and Friday, local musician Vince Mira will enlist the help of special guests such as The Heavenly Spies to play all Elvis tunes at the Triple Door. Elvis videos and live can can dancers will also be incorporated into the performances, so this sure to be a good time. (5 pm doors, 7 pm show, $15 adv / $20 dos, all ages)
Friday, January 7
7th Annual ELVIS BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE @ The Tractor Tavern
Another good time Elvis tribute! This one is appropriately taking place at the Tractor and will feature the Roy Kay Trio (http://www.roykaytrio.com/) and a bevy of other personalities, including KEXP’s own Leon Berman, host of Shake the Shack. A portion of the night’s proceeds will go to DESC (http://www.desc.org/), a charity for the homeless. (9:30 pm, $10, 21+)
POLICE TEETH with Virgin Islands and Eastern Grip @ Sunset Tavern
In-your-face grunge rockers Police Teeth (http://www.myspace.com/policeteeth) will be at the Sunset on Friday along with fellow local rockers Virgin Islands and Eastern Grip. It should be intense. (9 pm, $7, 21+)
DAMIEN JURADO with Widower and Tony Kevin Jr. @ Columbia City Theater
Since the Columbia City Theater was renovated in 2010 (I guess I can’t say earlier this year anymore!), it has become one of the most satisfying places to see a show, and they’ve had no trouble putting some great lineups of local music together. On Friday Damien Jurado will headline another great night of music that will also feature Widower and Tony Kevin Jr. (9 pm, $12 adv / $14 dos)

ELVIS ALIVE with Vince Mira @ The Triple Door
Two performances on Friday. One at 7 pm and and a 21+ performance at 10 pm, with the doors opening at 9:30. Elvis’ birthday tragically only comes once a year, so make sure to get your homage-paying in while you can. ($15 adv / $20 dos)
Saturday, January 8
KAY KAY AND HIS WEATHERED UNDERGROUND with Kaylee Cole, Bryan John Appleby @ The Sunset
What would we do if not for all of the amazing showcases Audioasis continues to host? This one will be at The Sunset, as usual, and feature Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground, Kaylee Cole, and Bryan John Appleby. Also as usual, the net proceeds will go to a good cause. This time it’s North Helpline. Click here for set times and more info. (8:30 pm, $7 adv / $8 dos, 21+)
CHRISTY MCWILSON & Phil’s Little Brother @ The Tractor Tavern
Local country singer Christy McWilson will be playing a seated show at the Tractor on Friday. McWilson has been playing and recording music as a solo artist and a member of a number of different bands since the 80s. She took some time off in the middle of the 00s to have a child, but now she is back with a new solo album of feel-good, laid-back (or in this case, sitting-down, I guess) country pop. (6 pm, $15, 21+)
