“We are like sisters. We are sisters,” says vocalist Carolyn Berk about the members of Lovers. Once a project showcasing Berk’s songs on four previous albums, the Portland-based group is now a full-fledged trio with with Kerby Ferris on electronics and Emily Kingan on percussion. The new album, Dark Light, is just that: a mix of moody but still buoyant synth-pop full of hooks and harmonies. Recently, Lovers arrived ridiculously early to the KEXP studio to perform their new songs live on the Morning Show with John Richards. Here are the videos from their session:

The tag “synthie-pop” would have turned me away, luckily it didn’t: what a performance! It’s amazing to see how intensely focused Carolyn delivers the lyrics, how laid back and relaxed Emily keeps the machine running and Kerby Ferris’ backing vocals are anything but in the background. I put theses videos on DVD and keep watching the show-John Richards is as sweet an early-morning host as you can wish for! Thanks KEXP for putting this amazing trio on my radar.

The Lovers are for me a jackpot in finding new good bands. They are amazing and I wish them fantastic success.
