Recently, Small Black shoegazed their way into our studios, hammering out a set of popped out electro tunes. The quartet’s larger than life sound gets them the all-too-frequent My Bloody Valentine comparisons, but they’ve harnessed that sound and made it their own. Humbly founded in a Long Island home one winter, the band began as a duo, pumping out laid back, Casio-fueled tracks. Some time later, Small Black was re-imagined as a bolder, fuller, livelier band capable of blasting out early-90s post-new wave, pre-grunge meddlings. The foursome went on to record New Chain on Jagjaguwar last year. The band’s song “Photojournalist” was also featured in November as our Song of the Day.
