You might think them Seattle’s own Soggy Bottom Boys, but Cahalen Morrison & Eli West are both relative young ‘uns in the old-time music scene. You’d hardly know it when listening to them perform their tight harmonies, but the now local-based duo met only a short time ago after being connected by a mutual friend and Spokane DJ. Recently, they both moved to Seattle and started playing out at folk shows around town. The two compliment each other’s strengths -- Cahalen as a fingerpicking songwriter and Eli as a bluegrass multi-instrumentalist -- and together they create rich traditional music with a modern bent. Last month, Cahalen Morrison and Eli West appeared live in The Roadhouse with Greg Vandy to perform songs from their debut record, The Holy Coming of the Storm, which is full of deftly written original songs alongside a few traditional favorites like the oft-covered “I’ll Not Be a Stranger.” Check out the videos from their performance here:
