Video Roundup: February 10, 2011

It’s been a lively day for music videos, with new releases from The Kills, The Black Keys, Mogwai, and Say Hi.

  • Bonnie and Clyde go to the seaside in “Satellites,” the new video from The Kills. It’s a song that’s far from their trademark stripped-down, guitar-and-vocal style – a brooding garage-rock stomper – but it’s fantastic, and the perfect soundtrack to this nearly Grindhouse-esque clip.

  • The Black Keys continue their tradition of hilarious and awesome videos with this new one for “Howlin’ For You,” a pitch-perfect parody of a B-movie trailer that’s so good you’ll forget it’s not real. The cast of markedly B-movie actors like Sean Patrick Flanery, Corbin Bernsen, and Diora Baird only help to deepen the illusion. Watch it here (vaguely NSFW).
  • Mogwai gets the video treatment in this clip soundtracked by new song “Mexican Grand Prix,” off of their newest release Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. It’s shot as a series of incredibly fast takes, the vast majority of which are simple shots of people’s faces. The video is a little disorienting but the music is not, a simple plodding post-rocker that builds to a noisy and chaotic conclusion.

  • In this clip from Say Hi, new track “Devils” is accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek rendition of the classic rock cliché of selling one’s soul to the devil. Frontman Eric Elbogen plays the lead, a musician benefiting from the devil’s embrace, with a humorous twist, laughing as he falls down to the pits of hell.
