Each year, just outside of Portland, OR, a few thousand people gather on the 80 acres of Pendarvis Farm for a long weekend of roots music in a relaxed, down-home atmosphere. Pickathon is one of the best roots festivals in the country and one of the best festivals of any kind in the Northwest. This year, the festival takes place on the weekend of August 5-7 and features Mavis Staples, Bill Callahan, Califone, Damien Jurado, Fruit Bats, Elliott Brood, The Builders and The Butchers, Vetiver, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Cahalen Morrison & Eli West and many others.
Over the weekend, each artist will play at least two sets somewhere among the six unique performance spaces, ranging from a stage in the middle of the woods, an acoustic workshop barn (where the Decemberists recorded their latest album), a rocking late night stage in the Galaxy Barn, a late night outdoor stage under the stars, and two primary main stages.
Tickets and the preliminary 2011 lineup can now be found at www.pickathon.com.
