Monday’s headlines were filled with news of Arcade Fire‘s “upset” Album of the Year win at the 2011 Grammys. Much to the amusement of the indie nation, a small but vocal segment of the population has been tweeting and updating their Facebooks with gems like “Acrade [sic] Fire? That is bulls***!! So, what if they are Canadian? They aren’t Eminem!!” Some kind soul has been archiving the priceless reactions at the tumblr page Who Is Arcade Fire?
In more serious news, Sunday night’s show was watched by 26.66 million viewers, the largest audience the Grammys have entertained for eleven years. The large audience resulted in a sales bump for the big winners and some of the lesser known artists in the broadcast. Preliminary data from iTunes reports sales spikes for Arcade Fire and relative unknown Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding.
