Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole, is “Resolution” by Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3 from Northern Aggression on Yep Roc.
Steve Wynn himself is somewhat of a legend around the indie rock parts. Several years of being a part of the Dream Syndicate starting in 1981, which followed the life decisions of an adolescent having to decide between sports writing and acting on the inherent musician that was bubbling up deep inside, ready to strike. Wynn made the right choice, and after nine years with the Dream Syndicate, he launched his first solo offering with the album Kerosene Man. Since then, he’s been staunchly true-to-self, and successfully so. The supporting members, aka The Miracle 3, are all veteran musicians and have been working with Wynn since 2001 — Linda Pitmon on drums, best known probably for her association with ZuZus Petals among numerous other credits, bassist Dave Decastro, and guitarist Jason Victor. To describe them as “hard working” would be to underestimate them. On his latest album, today’s featured song, “Resolution,” is a brooding, controlled, yet aggressive piece of work. Balanced expertly between energy and great production, the song kicks off the album and drives through with machismo and lyrical prowess.
Steve Wynn and The Miracle 3 will be our guests LIVE on KEXP in Austin as KEXP broadcasts from inside Mellow Johnny’s bike shop during SXSW. They’ll be live at 10:30AM PST on Friday, March 18. Tune in all week. You can find out more about KEXP at SXSW here.
