Wild Flag is the new punk supergroup featuring Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss (of Sleater-Kinney), Rebecca Cole (of The Minders), and Mary Timony (of Helium), and they’re gaining momentum heading towards the release of the debut album. Dark folk mistress Marissa Nadler has left her label and struck out on her own, with a forthcoming self-titled, self-released album on the way. The first single from it has made its way to bandcamp, entitled “Baby, I Will Leave You in the Morning.” It’s a collage of her traditional singer-songwriter gloom and full-band instrumentation, with hints of electronics and grooving percussion. Karin Dreijer Andersson is probably best known for her work as one half of The Knife, but her notable solo work under the alias Fever Ray has garnered her acclaim. A new song from the project debuted with the trailer for the Catherine Hardwicke film Red Riding Hood, and now that the soundtrack is out, we can hear the track in its full glory. Like the best of Fever Ray’s work, the song is a twisted gem that uses Andersson’s voice as a unique weapon in her electronic arsenal.
Explosions in the Sky have been bringing their intense, charged post-rock to shattered eardrums everywhere for over a decade now, but with age comes responsibility, and since 2008 the band has been busy with wives and children. Apparently, that’s all changed now, as their next LP Take Care, Take Care, Take Care readies for launch. Hear the stormy new single below for a first taste.
