This week, the entire music industry is gathered in one place, or at least that’s what it seems like during SXSW. Many of the bands releasing albums this week are in Austin pimpin’ them right now, and among the most buzzed about are KEXP favorites like The Dodos, The Joy Formidable, J Mascis and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears.
On the international front, other excellent releases this come from the Indian-British fusionists Cornershop (featured as today’s Song of the Day podcast!), Iceland’s Sindri Már Sigfússon, a.k.a. Sin Fang, and Yuna, a 24-year-old singer from Malaysia. Old school releases include the latest from Chicago guitar rockers Eleventh Dream Day (their 10th album and first in five years!), Boston’s veteran alt-rockers Buffalo Tom, and Queens garage rockers The Fleshtones (35 years and running!).
Other releases worth checking out come from Noah and the Whale, Brown Recluse, solo releases from Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Matthew Friedberger (The Fiery Furnaces), and and Rose Melberg’s new project Brave Irene (you might remember her from Tiger Trap, Go Sailor, or The Softies). Also, Seattle label Barsuk is re-releasing Rilo Kiley‘s 2001 full-length debut, Take Offs and Landings.

Good list! I’d also add the release by “Hype Williams”, an experimental electronics artist that had a few Pitchfork articles recently.
