KEXP at SXSW 2011, Day 1: Grouplove

The five members of indie rock collective Grouplove happened upon each other at an art residency in Greece, on the island of Crete. They grew quickly to be the closest of friends, creating passionate music inspired by their love for each other and for life. After the residency concluded, and the friends moved back to their homes across the globe, they realized that they couldn’t leave the moment isolated in time. They pulled their funds together and flew out to Los Angeles to record their album, a joyous collection of soaring harmonies and rocking anthems. Like the band themselves, the music is focused but diverse, a conglomerate pop gem. The band has since officially relocated to LA, consistently touring with larger acts like Florence and the Machine, as well as supporting fellow underground champions Foster the People. Now they’ve brought their ecstatic flair to SXSW, proving that when you’ve got love in your heart and songs in your head, the sky’s the limit.
