Dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979 have already announced their reunion with shows at this year’s Coachella and Sasquatch! festivals, but they surprised everyone with an unannounced set at SXSW’s outdoor, tented stage at the Beauty Bar. The venue was already at capacity when they came onstage, but outside, fans gathered in an alleyway behind a flimsy chain link fence. A couple songs into the set, the fence was torn down, and police were forced to halt the show and clear the alleyway, using mounted officers and mace. From the video, which you can watch below, it’s not even close to being as horrific as it sounds, and the band finished their set after a 10-minute wait during which Sebastien Grainger practiced his stand-up. All in all, a pretty standard night.
