Last year, David Byrne swept into court against former Florida governor Charlie Crist after Crist used Talking Heads‘ “Road to Nowhere” in an online campaign ad without permission or licenses. Crist removed the ad promptly, but Byrne pursued, seeking a million dollars from the Senate candidate. Now, Byrne has posted on his website that he and Crist have resolved the suit.
The terms of the settlement have not been revealed, although Crist has issued a video apology which might have been part of the deal. “It turns out I am one of the few artists who has the bucks and cojones to challenge such usage - I’m feeling very manly after my trip to Tampa!” Byrne said of the process, adding “My hope is that by standing up to this practice maybe it can be made to be a less common option, or better yet an option that is never taken in the future.”
Below, you can watch Crist’s abashed apology video.
