Over the last year, The Cave Singers have previewed their new songs on KEXP at least a couple of times (see here and here), before most of them even had names, but on the release day of their excellent third album, No Witch, Derek, Peter and Marty made if official with an electrifying, though mostly acoustic, set live in the KEXP studio. The new songs certainly maintain the swampy vibe that fans have come to love, but they’re also more widely ranging -- while the older “Summer Light” is a gentle strummer and “Haller Lake” is a kicked-back backwoods rumination, “Black Leaf” is, in contrast, a searing jam, and “Clever Creatures” starts slowly but builds into one of their catchiest “pop” hooks.
