BOAT began in Seattle in 2004 as the brainchild of David Crane, a Chicago transplant who moved to the Northwest after a stint as a schoolteacher. Once he planted himself firmly in the Seattle scene, he allied himself with Jackson Long, Josh Goodman, Mark McKenzie, and a slew of cheap equipment. The band began with two self-recorded, handmade albums entitled “Life is a Shipwreck” and “After All,” garnering a reputation for imaginative and quirky indie rock around the Northwest. Soon, the band was embarking on full West Coast tours, amassing a loyal fan following, and the rest is history. Now, the band is promoting their 2011 full-length, Dress Like Your Idols, a collection of raucous, danceable rock tunes that infect the mind and stick around for days. KEXP was lucky enough to capture the fun-loving quartet for an exuberant live in-studio early in the morning with John Richards. Watch below, and experience BOAT:
