Earth Day 2011 Playlist

Earth Day has been celebrated for over 40 years, a day of civic observance that promotes love and care for the planet we call home. People declare their “acts of green” and attend festivals and community events around the globe, sharing and cherishing the lush atmosphere with which we’re blessed (a rarity in the cosmos). You can head over to the Earth Day website for information on how to take action or donate.

In the meantime, musicians everywhere also show their appreciation for Mother Nature. KEXP has assembled a quasi-playlist of the finest earthy, nature-inspired tunes from contemporary folks like Fleet Foxes, Akron/Family, Grandaddy, and Lord Huron, and a couple classics from Joni Mitchell and The Beach Boys. Enjoy the songs, and remember: EVERY DAY should be Earth Day!

Fleet Foxes – “Meadowlarks”

Grandaddy – “The Nature Anthem”

Joni Mitchell – “Big Yellow Taxi”

Lord Huron – “The Stranger”

Akron/Family – “The Alps & Their Orange Evergreen”

The Beach Boys – “Don’t Go Near The Water”
