Sonic Roundup 4/27

  • Indie rockers Telekinesis are touring in support of their most recent release, 12 Desperate Straight Lines. They took a break recently to stop by The AV Club and perform a cover of Belle & Sebastian‘s “Like Dylan in the Movies.” Watch:

  • You might not know it, but “Pursuit of Happiness” off of Kid Cudi‘s Man on the Moon: The End of Day featured some vocal work by New York’s MGMT. If you did know that, then you’d probably be less surprised than the crowd NY’s Roseland Ballroom last Friday when Cudi brought the electropop duo onstage to help perform the cut. Watch the pair get awkwardly funky below.

  • Blur‘s Damon Albarn is no stranger to hip-hop collaborations, slowly becoming Gorillaz‘ Damon Albarn over the course of the past decade, so it’s not much of a surprise that this new Kid Koala-spun Dan the Automator-sequenced track features Albarn’s vocals. Listen to the untitled cut below.

  • REM commissioned a different director to create clips for each track off their new one Collapse into Now. Below, check out “Every Day Is Yours To Win,” a video of seeming non-sequiturs directed by Jim McKay, Chris Moukarbel, and Valerie Veatch.

  • Hagrid — I mean Robbie Coltrane — stars in this Kate Bush-directed clip of the Kate Bush song “Deeper Understanding” from the collection of reworked Kate Bush songs Director’s Cut. At first it seems pretty straightforward: man falls in love with computer program. Simple, right? Then it gets pretty dark. Maybe this is why wizards shouldn’t use muggle technology:

  • Another surprise guest made their way to the stage recently, this time in the form of Arcade Fire‘s Win Butler. The frontman came out during The National‘s performance at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion to provide some backing vocals for “Start A War.” Fan video below.

  • Canadian electropop outfit Junior Boys have released a new track entitled “Banana Ripple” from their forthcoming album It’s All True, due out June 14. May 30 will see the song hit shelves as a 12″ single. Listen:
