Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased tracks, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Glowing Mouth” by Milagres from their forthcoming 2011 album Glowing Mouth on Kill Rock Stars.
Today’s song title seems to be a literal interpretation of what is happening when Milagres lead vocalist Kyle Wilson starts singing. His falsetto reaches new heights and dips into the contemplative, whirling melody and tempered electronic rhythm. It is hypnotizing and engulfing at once, eerily sticking in the back of your mind even after the song is finished.
The Brooklyn quartet came together over time between a few mutual friends, some having played in bands together before, and i’d like to think they also came together in the shared hope to someday work with Billy Joel. After a successul debut with Seven Summits, Kill Rock Stars picked them up, and the rest is history.
Milagres just wrapped up a pretty big tour including SXSW and so far they’re sticking close to home until the album’s release. If your not near New York, check out this video of Milagres performing “Glowing Mouth” live and be sure to check their website for updates on live shows!
