Point Juncture, WA – Boston Gold (MP3)

Portland quartet Point Juncture, WA have been busy the last couple of years since 2009’s Heart to Elk was released and became oni of Amazon’s top 100 records of that year. Besides touring with the likes of The Thermals, members of Point Juncture, WA have collaborated with The Decemberists, recorded bands like Blind Pilot and Horse Feathers, and still found time to buy a home together where the band collectively lives and records.

This band fiercely believes in the DIY ethic common to many Portlandians, which goes beyond growing their own food (which they also do!). Since their inception, the band has self-recorded and printed all of their own albums and even camp while on tour. This gives them the space and opportunity to spend a lot of time exploring and developing the sound for each album (Handsome Orders marks their fourth full-length), which in this case spans across the pop spectrum incorporating in elements of shoe-gaziness, super fuzzy guitars, and perfectly pop-erific vocals.

Point Juncture, WA are part of today’s KEXP’s Hood-to-Hood Ballard Day festivities. First check them out performing live on KEXP at 11am then again later that night at the Ballard Day showcase at The Sunset with Joshua Morrison and Yuni In Taxco. Your KEXP membership card gets you $2 off admission to the sunset after 9:30. More info on their website. For now, Check out this video for “Violin Case”:
