Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show Host John Richards, is “Aniborne” by Echo Tongues from their self-released, self-titled EP.
From the start today’s song is alluring and hypnotic. Punctuated by hand claps and dark, yet dreamy vocals, the music of Seattle’s Echo Tongues can be likened to early Deerhunter whose last two albums have made quite an impact on the hearts and eardrums of faithful KEXP listeners. But, this project started by Gary Wilson (who was recently joined by Tom Grady, Jessie Gore, and Ryan Merz) definitely stands on its own merit. Their debut EP (which is available via their bandcamp page) hits all the right chords — it’s smart, remarkably controlled for such a youthful group and project, and leaves you wanting more. Right now there are no live shows listed but keep an eye on their website for more info.
