The Flaming Lips are among music’s greatest showmen, and while their 2011 Sasquatch! set lacked the pomp and spectacle of their 2008 headlining spot, there was still plenty to rejoice. Playing an abridged collection of songs from their 1999 album The Soft Bulletin, the Lips took the stage with a vibrant visual display and a gleeful Wayne Coyne opening with his traditional hamster-ball stage dive. Once back onstage, the band launched into the exuberant “Race for the Prize,” while confetti cannons loosed their loads and balloons (and occasionally, inflatable vegetables) fell from the sky. The only downside to the show was that it ended — but you can still hear the whole performance, as many times as you want, via KEXP’s live stream of the event.
Plus, you can get another chance to witness the spectacle of The Flaming Lips in the Northwest as they return for The Puyallup Fair on September 21st (yes, you heard that right, The Flaming Lips at the Puyallup Fair!). Head over to our Facebook page for your chance to win a pair of tickets!
