Thursday News Roundup

  • Though summer music festivals are usually reserved for carefree fun and more good music than anyone knows what to do with, occasionally tragedy can strike in the midst of tens of thousands of patrons crammed into a single festival ground, on which drugs and booze are plentiful and the sun is searing overhead. This, unfortunately, was the case at this year’s Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee, where two have been confirmed to have died during last weekend’s festival. A 32-year-old Pittsburgh woman was found dead in her tent on Thursday, and on Tuesday a 24-year-old man from North Carolina was confirmed to have died from hyperthermia.
  • On the brighter side of Bonnaroo, music website Stereogum passed around Polaroid cameras to a number of artists and told them to have at it. Check out the results here.

  • A new Kanye West song has surfaced and the track, “Mama’s Boyfriend,” is quite a departure from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Listen here. You might recognize the song from Kanye’s impromptu performance on a desk in Facebook’s offices last year:

  • Years on the road have taught the Foo Fighters the best way to make promoters and venue operators understand how to keep the band happy and make them want to return to their town… with coloring books! Half in jest, tour manager Gus Brandt presented a Smoking Gun-inspired tour rider that visually demonstrates the band’s preferences (hint: “sweaty meats”, bad; fresh fruit, good). Enjoy the work puzzles, mazes and funny pictures here.
  • Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be releasing their third studio album, Hysterical, on September 12. The album’s first single will be “Same Mistake,” which you can listen to right here.
  • Bon Iver‘s new self-titled album will be hitting shelves next week, and it’s first single will be “Calgary.” Watch the video here:
