Thao and Mirah‘s liner notes read like a veritable supergroup. Produced with Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs) at John Vanderslice‘s Tiny Telephone Studios, and mixed by Tucker Martine, the famed producer who’s worked with Laura Veirs, The Decemberists, and Sufjan Stevens. But no matter how much talent with which you surround yourself, there’s got to be a spark, and Thao and Mirah have several. Thao’s energetic romps complement Mirah’s intimate, folksy singer-songwriter tendencies, and the duo plays off each other while pushing themselves into new, unexplored musical territory, as they did recently when they dropped by the KEXP studios to play some tracks from their new self-titled full-length.
