Live Video: The Lonely Forest

It’s not hard to understand what Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla sees in The Lonely Forest, who as the first band signed to his new label, Trans, tend to write the same kind of guitar-driven anthemic indie rock that made DCFC so beloved, and like Ben Gibbard, singer/guitarist John Van Deusen has an engaging yet plaintive and immediately recognizable voice. Less self-consciously clever and more heartfelt and earnest than their mentors, though, the younger Anacortes band have built their own audience by performing regularly in the Northwest, including several KEXP events, like the 2010 KEXP BBQ. Recently, between touring with The Joy Formidable and DCFC, The Lonely Forest took time to stop by the KEXP studio for a live session on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters.
