Sonic Roundup 7/6

  • Goth-rockers The Horrors are awaiting the release of their third LP, Skying, but the dapper lads aren’t content to leave their fans waiting. Tiding fans over is the psychedelic new video for “Still Life,” which rings in the summer with visual swirls and distorted lighting to the max. If you want a peek into the drug-addled mind of a rock star, look no further than this striking clip.

  • Radiohead drummer Phillip Selway has followed up his 2010 solo record, Familial, with the Running Blind EP, out July 25. The songs were originally recorded for the album, but Selway re-recorded them with a full band later on. Catch a stream of the title track here:
  • Active Child, real name Pat Grossi, is finally following up his critically lauded Curtis Lane EP with a full-length record of his infectious harp-filled bedroom pop. While the debut, entitled You Are All I See, isn’t due out till August 23rd, Grossi has contributed album track “Hanging On” to the Adult Swim Singles Program. Catch a stream below, and head over to the Adult Swim site for a free download.

  • Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, who performed a stunning in-studio on KEXP earlier this year, just recorded this cover of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are”:

  • The Onion’s A.V. Club is continuing its brilliant “Undercover” series in which bands are invited in studio to perform a cover song chosen from a predetermined list... the catch being that as more bands come in, the choices dwindle. Yet with plenty to choose from early in this new leg of the series, The Might Be Giants still picked the horribly annoying yet insanely catchy 90′s anthem “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba and brought in the A.V. Club staff to fill the room and yell you the chorus (is there much to the song besides the chorus?). Watch and yell:
