Next week’s Song of the Day podcasts

Next week I get the pick the song featured for our Song of the Day podcasts, and I couldn’t be more excited about this next group. There are very few moments where you discover something that is both brilliant and dangerous the first time you hear them and that’s what Wu Lyf was to me. It’s Foals meets Tom Waits meets a riot. Fool’s Gold’s debut was a thing of beauty and the forthcoming followup takes it up another 10 notches, pick a track, any track… All good. I’ve been waiting for the latest Beirut album for a while now and had feared they were done… far from it, the new single kills. Pure X’s “Easy” reminds me of Galaxy 500 on this catchy atmospheric track, and as I type I’m listening to this brilliant Seattle band Pickwick. I love this soulful laidback groove. Listening now reminds me of hearing Fitz and the Tantrums for the first time.
