Sonic Roundup 7/20

  • Our guests today on the Afternoon Show, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, just released an amazing new video for his inspirational song “Wings”:

  • M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez has been teasing us about his new album for some time, but now fans can finally get their first taste. New track “Midnight City” can be had for the paltry price of a “like” on the band’s Facebook page, and it’s a doozy of high-powered synthpop. It’s the first glimpse we’ve gotten at the forthcoming record, which releases October 18 and now has a title: Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. If “Midnight City” is any indication, Dreaming is going to be exactly the epic that Gonzalez has promised. Listen:

  • The Beastie Boys have teamed up with mastermind of film Spike Jonze for the music video of Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 track “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win,” featuring Santigold. The video showcases Jonze’s trademark inventiveness and sense of humor, as Beastie Boys and Santigold action figures (yep, you read that right) get hunted by military-type looking soldiers. The action takes a darker twist near the end of the video, in a surreal series of events that only the Boys and Jonze could concoct. Watch the music video below, and check out 11-minute, explicit, extended version on Youtube.

  • The jangly, lo-fi Dum Dum Girls have unveiled the first single from their new full-length Only In Dreams, which hits shelves September 27 on Seattle’s own Sub Pop label. The track’s called “Coming Down,” and that’s exactly what it sounds like: a slow-burner, woozy and hazy, crammed tight with swooning vocals and lackadaisical guitars. Listen below, and download if you’re willing to part with an email address.

  • “Eyes Be Closed” is the album opener from Washed Out‘s dreamy new LP Within and Without, and now thanks to the collaborative team of Timothy Saccenti and Alan Bibby, the song’s taken a visual form. The clip is simple enough in concept – a leopard-print clad vixen takes a motorcycle jaunt through lush scenery – but soon becomes something a bit more dimension-shattering. Watch:
