KEXP DJ El Toro recently hosted a night of music he dubbed 4AD 4VR, a one-two punch of live in-studio performances from Robin Guthrie (of Cocteau Twins) and Brendan Perry (of Dead Can Dance), both musical luminaries from iconic independent record label 4AD. Of course, since then, both musicians have moved into solo projects on other labels, but their characteristic style still remains. Whether it’s Guthrie’s newest LP Emeralds, the latest installment in the ever-evolving ambient career he’s crafting for himself; or Perry’s ethereal rock album Ark, his first studio album in eleven years; the pair have not lost their knack for creating excellent, addictive, and haunting music.
