The inaugural installment of The Portland Queer Music Festival lands in the Rose City this Saturday (July 30th), for a one-day-only showcase of up-and-coming queer bands from the Northwest region, with a few special guests from New York, Philadelphia, and St. Louis sprinkled throughout.
“We have had a bunch of multimedia festivals that perform to various levels of success, but I dreamed of a music festival that truly showcased queer talent,” says Samuel Thomas, Portland Queer Music Festival curator. “Everyone I talked to got incredibly excited and asked how they could be involved and the rest is recent history.”
The all-day, all-night festival will feature 27 bands on 2 stages beginning at 3PM at Red Cap Garage and Boxxes, with a line-up that offers something for everybody with a wide-array of musical genres represented. Says Thomas,”I spent hours pouring over music and listening to artists before picking the best of the best local, regional and touring artists. Next year I hope to expand the festival even further and include more artists and talent that was unable to perform this year due to other obligations, but I could not be happier about the lineup we have now!”
Oh, and it’s only $3!
