As you can imagine, Oklahoma is home to a lot of great music, much of it roots-related, but Stillwater must run deep because even though the north-central town gave rise to the likes of Garth Brooks, it is also home to the group Other Lives, whose sophomore releases, Tamer Animals, is a lush orchestral pop masterpiece. Mixing electronics and strings, dual drummers and trumpet and bell-adorned antlers, the 5-piece band performed live in our studio last month as the toured with The Rosebuds. Check out these achingly beautiful songs captured on video just for you:

Yes! Good Oklahoma band!
This music is very beautiful. Such a labor to be able to execute this live with such precision and so many instruments. Great Oklahoma band! Good job Other Lives and KEXP!

I am mesmerized. This blog link was sent to me this past the weekend, and by Tuesday I had Other Lives’ “Tamer Animals” CD (right, a real physical CD) in my hand, thanks to an Amazon gift card/code that needed spending. So, ‘nuff said... I’ve now got a new/current soundtrack for my daily commute to and from work. Moody Blues/Sergio Leone, plus American Roots/Folk... and something else all rolled into one. Not fair to put such markers on a group that’s their own, but maybe it’ll help make folks stop and listen.
