Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased tracks, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Midday Show, is “Dear Sister” by Team Me from their 2011 self-titled EP on Propeller Recordings.
This Norwegian six-piece have been garnering some attention from their Countrymen. In a dark and foreign land known for obscure and sometimes evil music, Team Me is an joyously bright stab at orchestral pop, much along the same lines as Arcade Fire would be akin to Architecture In Helsinki. They recently toured with The Wombats throughout the UK and their home nation of Norway and have recently released their brilliant, but painfully short 5 song EP ahead of a full length album expected out this Fall.
Today’s featured song, “Dear Sister,” comes smack dab in the middle of the EP and does a nice job of slowing things down for an otherwise pretty jumpy collection of songs which may be the closest you’ll ever get to a true Norwegian Summer album. The way our Summer has been going so far in Seattle, Team Me sounds just about perfect.
Team Me is currently getting ready to release their debut LP and are about to jump back on tour this fall with The Wombats and eventually end up at Iceland Airwaves in October. Check their website for specific dates. No plans for a U.S. leg of the tour yet, but for now, here is their official music video for “Dear Sister” from their self entitled EP, Team Me:
