Song of the Day: The Ettes - My Heart

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “My Heart” by The Ettes from the from the 2011 album Wicked Will on Found Object/Krian Music Group.

The Ettes - My Heart (MP3)

Nashville Rock trio (and KEXP favorites) The Ettes are back strong with their latest release, Wicked Will, the band’s fourth full-length album and their first through their own imprint, Found Object. The album will also be available as a vinyl release through long dormant indie label Sympathy For the Record Industry, who put out The Ettes’ fantastic 2005 debut, Shake the Dust. Wicked Will is a coming of age album for the band which also has them reunited again with producer Liam Watson (The Kills, White Stripes), who recorded their debut. It seems as if the trio made a conscious effort to return to their roots for their latest effort. The familiar Ettes sound is still all there with everything you’d expect, only more: gnarly rock girl vocals, fuzzy bass riffs, hard core drum beats, blazing guitars, and that trademark Ettes’ attitude.

After a CD release show in Nashville, the band kicked off a national headlining tour with two NYC shows in the beginning of this month. They’ll be at The Sunset in Seattle on August 19. Check their website for additional dates and updates. For now, enjoy the official video for the Ettes’ single “No Home” from their third LP, Do You Want Power, produced by Dan Auerbach at his Akron Analog Studios:
