Live Around Town This Week

This looks like a week for hard drinking and hard rocking, so make sure and pace yourself. There are also some great free options to explore almost every day of the week. Things start off strong with a great local show at Chop Suey featuring Land of Pines, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion play at Neumo’s, and then things start getting wild. We’ve got two “Power of the Riff” shows featuring bands like Winter, Pelican, From Ashes Rise, and local heavy metal favorites Black Breath. Even the Friday Concerts at the Mural show takes a bit of a harder edge with Black Mountain, My Goodness, and the Whalebones. There’s also Sound Fest all weekend, a new local festival chock full of old-school punk rock bands (Cro Mags, Zero Boys, Stiff Little Fingers, etc…) and hard rocking new local/national acts. Get out there and explore some hard rock this week, there’s plenty of it! Here’s the full schedule of acts below:

The three day all ages festival will be conveniently held in the heart of the Downtown Seattle area. The event will feature both National Touring Acts and many of Seattle’s best local bands. Some of the cities most respected venues- Neumos, El Corazon, and the Vera Project will anchor the daytime shows. Two of Seattle’s best-known bars, The Funhouse and The Comet will be host to the festival after parties for the 21+ crowds.

Saturday, August 20

*Arts In Nature Festival: The Moondoggies, Legendary Oaks, Side Saddle, Caspar Babypants, One Love!, The Rabbit Stew String Band, and many more at Camp Long (info)

Nature Consortium is a grassroots, community-based organization whose mission is to connect people, arts and nature. Camp Long’s rustic cabins house the “museum of sound” where artists take up residency for the weekend and create multidisciplinary installations that blend sound, auditory arts, music and visual arts. Most of the cabins have an interactive, hands-on component, allowing attendees to enter and interact with the artists’ work.

Yet another great outdoor festival has popped up in Seattle this summer. Local vintage store/music venue/label Cairo is hosting a free outdoor festival at Volunteer Park August 20th featuring an eclectic group of up and coming local and regional acts.
