Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole, is “Coronas on Madrona” by The Physics from their self-released album Love Is a Business.
Even though it seems like summer is just getting started, the long warm days are in fact numbered. But that doesn’t mean you can’t download a little audio-sunshine in the form of The Physics to take with you into the impending fall and winter months. Their second full-length, Love is a Business, makes a great soundtrack to an impromptu barbeque or an attitude adjuster for those stuck in traffic around town. Hit play, turn up the volume and be transported to your favorite summertime memories. The Physics carve themselves a nice niche in the ever growing Seattle hip hop scene. They blend elements of soul, chill electronic music, and nostalgia tinged lyrics into songs you’ll want on high rotation.
You can catch The Physics at the High Dive on 9/2 with Hobosexual, Viper Creek Club, and the Smokey Brights at the Bumbershoot kick off party or a little later this month at The Showbox on 9/17 with the Blue Scholars. More dates and info can be found on their website. For now, here’s a video of them performing “These Moments”:
