KEXP has teamed up with The Vera Project, the venerable all-ages music and arts venue, and Toyota’s Free Yr Radio, a program supporting non-commercial and indie stations across the country, to bring you a truly unique experience at Bumbershoot this weekend. Over the past few weeks, young music fans from Vera have been instructed by KEXP DJ’s Sharlese and Chilly, Free Yr Radio’s Gregg Flotin, and myself about the process of DJing at live events, hosting live bands, radio interviewing, and podcasting. Everything they’ve learned will culminate this weekend at Bumbershoot, where they’ll be DJing between performances and interviewing bands on the Free Yr Radio stage (located near the International Fountain at Seattle Center). They’ll be showcased for all three days of the festival, so make sure to stop by and also visit KEXP.org after the festival to listen to podcasts of select Free Yr Radio performances and interviews from this innovate, youth-led Bumbershoot experience.
