Whether you were Bumbershooting, traveling, BBQing, relaxing or just hanging out at home, we hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. For most people, though, it’s now time to get serious. The days are getting shorter. School is about to start. Work is ramping up. Thankfully, this week’s new releases are here to remind you that playtime doesn’t have to be over just yet (after all, there are still two weeks left of summer!). Topping the short list this week are NYC dance-punks The Rapture, who aim to fill the dance floors with their first album in five years. Although the new record is their most stylistically diverse yet, you’ll find plenty of hip-shakers to keep the party going. And to keep sailing into the sunset, the LA-meets-London collaboration of AM & Shawn Lee offer a breezy, summery yacht-rock vibe on their ’70s-inspired electro-pop debut.
Other albums worth checking out in record stores today include a danceable yet dark new EP by Charlotte Gainsbourg (produced by Beck) and and even darker, but still danceable, second album from the London by way of Berlin and Melbourne duo HTRK (pronounced “Hate Rock”).
