Thursday News Roundup

  • If you’re an iconic band or performer, one of the perks to breaking up or dying tragically is a short-lived boost in record sales. You saw it with Michael Jackson, you saw it with Amy Winehouse, and you saw it with some other artist or band that died or broke up some time in the past few years that I can’t think of right now. Recently disbanded rock icons R.E.M. are prime candidates to reap the benefits of a postmortem spike in sales, and they’re making sure they don’t miss their last opportunity to cash in. If you though they had already released enough Greatest Hits compilations, you were wrong; they will be releasing another one. Click here for details.

  • Feist‘s new album Metals isn’t due to hit shelves until Tuesday, October 4, but you can stream all 12 tracks of the new LP in their entirety by clicking here. Just be prepared to fork over your e-mail address, if you dare.
  • UK electronic producer Star Slinger recently released “Dumbin’,” his first original single. Stream the track here, and don’t forget to listen to Star Slinger tomorrow LIVE ON KEXP at 1PM and then stop by The Crocodile that night to see him perform with Beat Connection, Mux Mool, and oOoOO in what is sure to be one of the most exciting showcases of this year’s Decibel Festival.
  • On October 18, summer-y indie rockers Real Estate will be releasing Days, the follow-up to their stellar 2009 self-titled debut album. We’ve already brought you the song “It’s Real” from their forthcoming release, and now you can stream the single “Green Aisles.” All you have to do is click here.
  • New tUnE-yArDs video for “Gangsta.” Check it:
