Jason Isbell didn’t come to the attention of the scene until he joined the Drive-By Truckers in 2001, but since his amicable departure from the band in ’07, he’s made a name for himself with a slew of solo work, alone and with his backing band The 400 Unit. As a five-piece, the group has toured consistently since their eponymous debut in 2009, bringing their Southern-style alt-country to venues around the nation. Their latest, Here We Rest, is a further exploration of the roots in which Isbell finds his pride, amidst lyrical storytelling in a graveled croon. KEXP was lucky enough to record a live session with the rising star.
Watch Isbell and the band stir up a few rousing tracks from their new album below, and catch ‘em live this Friday, October 7, with another KEXP fave, Justin Townes Earl, at the Showbox at the Market.
